The verdict

Our best overall pick for typical US lawns from half an acre up. The 17" deck and 4WD chassis cover ground faster than anything at the price, and an 84% slope rating means hills aren't a deal-breaker. Navigation relies on network RTK plus cameras, so dense canopy is a weaker spot than it is for LiDAR rivals.

What we like

  • Widest deck in its class (17"), so it mows very fast
  • 84% slope rating with 4WD and Xero-Turn steering
  • Easy auto or remote-control mapping
  • Reliable obstacle avoidance

Watch out for

  • Some yards still need the RTK antenna
  • Occasionally misses spots that need a trim
  • EdgeSense can scuff raised edges

Segway Navimow X4 Series (X430 / X450) video review

The Segway Navimow X4 (sold as the X430 and X450) is our top-rated mower for typical US lawns of half an acre and up. Its 17” deck is the widest in its class, its 4WD chassis is rated for 84% slopes, and it usually costs less than the LiDAR flagships. Its one real weakness is dense tree cover, where camera-plus-RTK navigation is less sure-footed than LiDAR.

Who the Navimow X4 is for (and who should skip it)

The X4 suits open or lightly treed lawns from about half an acre to 1.5 acres, especially ones with hills. Bob Vila named the X430 its best overall robot mower for 2026, scoring it 5/5 for setup, navigation and performance after it handled thick St. Augustine grass and steep slopes.

Skip it if your lot is under a third of an acre: you’d be paying for deck width and coverage you won’t use, and a smaller AWD model makes more sense. Also skip it if most of your lawn sits under a continuous canopy. In that case a LiDAR mower is the safer bet. And if you dislike handling heavy gear, note that Bob Vila’s main con was that it’s large and hard to lift.

Navigation combines Segway’s EFLS 3.0 network RTK (corrections over 4G, no antenna in most areas), 360° VSLAM cameras and visual-inertial odometry that carries the mower through brief satellite dropouts. PCWorld’s reviewer found network RTK switched on automatically, and auto-mapping produced an accurate map of a roughly 7,600 sq ft lawn.

Dock placement is the step that trips people up. The dock needs level ground, about 6.6 feet of clear space in front (per PCWorld), and a good view of the sky. How-To Geek’s reviewer moved the dock three times before finding a spot that worked, then ran auto-mapping around the perimeter in under 10 minutes. Owners echo this: the corner-of-the-house spot that looks tidy is often the worst place for satellite reception. Expect firmware updates out of the box too. How-To Geek counted more than 10, and PCWorld spent about 20 minutes on two. Our setup guide covers dock placement in detail.

If network RTK isn’t available at your address, you’ll need to mount the included antenna, which brings back some of the installation work wire-free buyers want to avoid.

Mowing performance, slopes and terrain

The 84% rating (about 40°) ties the WORX Vision Cloud 4WD for the highest of any wheeled mower we track, and the Xero-Turn 4WD chassis backs it up. PCWorld saw it cross uneven ground “without spinning its wheels, sliding, or stalling,” and How-To Geek reported it handled wet and muddy patches. As always, that rating assumes dry, short grass. Leave margin on damp clay or long grass, and check your grades with the slope checker.

Obstacle handling is a strength. PCWorld noted it “never spilled over the side” of a narrow drop beside a fence, which the smaller Navimow i215 struggled with on the same lawn. How-To Geek found the AI vision recognized a wide range of objects and animals. If you have pets or kids, see our safety guide as well.

Coverage, cutting and edges

The 17” deck is the X4’s biggest practical advantage. Wider cuts mean fewer passes, so it gets through an acre faster than narrower rivals like the 8.7” WORX Vision Cloud 4WD. PCWorld reported “a clean, even cut” at 3” and 4” settings. How-To Geek found first passes looked a little “choppy” until a second pass cleaned things up, and noted occasional missed spots during night mowing.

EdgeSense mode gets the deck within about 2” of walls and fences, which cuts down on trimming. It comes with a caution: How-To Geek’s X430 drove up onto a raised patio in EdgeSense mode and damaged its epoxy coating. If you have raised pavers, curbs or patio edges, set a small no-go buffer around them in the app. You’ll still need a string trimmer occasionally.

App, connectivity and anti-theft

The Navimow app is one of the best in the category. Bob Vila gave it a perfect score, and PCWorld praised it for keeping key controls easy to find. Scheduling, rain delay, traction control, night mode, child lock and voice-assistant support are all there.

Anti-theft uses 4G GPS tracking with a geofence alarm. The first year of Connect+ is included, and PCWorld reports renewal at $32.90 per year. See our theft protection guide for practical extras.

Ownership notes

  • Running costs: about $33 a year for 4G after year one, plus replacement blades.
  • Antenna risk: network RTK coverage varies by address. If yours lacks it, you’ll be mounting an antenna with a sky view and a cable run.
  • Edges and hardscape: set buffers around raised edges before letting EdgeSense run unattended.
  • Weight: it’s a big machine. Plan dock placement so you rarely need to carry it.

How the Navimow X4 compares

Against the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD, the X4 wins on deck width, slope rating and usually price, while the LUBA’s LiDAR makes it the better choice under heavy trees. Our LUBA 3 vs Navimow X4 comparison goes through the details. The Dreame A3 AWD Pro is the LiDAR alternative at a similar or lower sale price. For big lawns that are gentle rather than hilly, the older Navimow X3 reaches 2.5 acres on the X390. If you’re weighing automatic edge trimming, see ECOVACS GOAT vs Segway Navimow.

Bottom line

For most buyers with half an acre or more, especially with hills, the Navimow X4 is the best balance of speed, traction, ease of use and price in 2026. Reviewers consistently praise its mapping and app, and its 17” deck covers ground faster than anything at the price. Confirm network RTK coverage at your address, take your time choosing a dock spot, and look elsewhere if your lawn is mostly under trees. Prices change often, so check the current deal before you buy.

Navimow X4 FAQ

Does the Segway Navimow X4 need an RTK antenna?
Usually not. The X430 and X450 are designed to use Segway's network RTK service over the built-in 4G modem, and PCWorld found it activated automatically at no extra cost. If your address falls outside network RTK coverage, you have to assemble and mount the included RTK antenna instead. Check coverage for your area before buying, especially in rural locations.
What is the difference between the Navimow X430 and X450?
Coverage and price. The X430 is rated for 1 acre, while the X450 covers 1.5 acres and costs more; both are premium-tier mowers. Both share the same 17-inch deck, 4WD chassis, 84% slope rating and navigation hardware. Buy the X430 unless your mowable area is clearly over about 0.85 acre.
Does the Navimow X4 have a subscription fee?
The 4G Connect+ service, which covers network RTK and remote tracking, is included for the first year. PCWorld reports the renewal at $32.90 per year. That is modest, but factor it into long-term cost, since network RTK positioning depends on the cellular connection if you are not using the antenna.
Can the Navimow X4 mow under trees?
It can handle scattered trees well, because its 360-degree cameras and visual-inertial odometry bridge short gaps in satellite signal. PCWorld saw it move nimbly around trees and a play structure. Dense, continuous canopy is a weaker spot than it is for LiDAR mowers like the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD or Dreame A3 AWD Pro, so heavily wooded lots should consider those.
