The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 1000 is a small, wire-free LiDAR mower for lawns up to a quarter acre, with no RTK station and an app-adjustable height. Reviewers agree it is quiet and easy to map. They disagree sharply on reliability: New Atlas had a miserable first weeks on sandy grass, while AppleInsider and GearDiary were positive. MOVA’s US store lists it at $999, and reviewers saw it on sale. Check today’s price.
Who the MOVA LiDAX Ultra 1000 is for (and who should skip it)
It suits a small, relatively flat and open lawn where easy setup matters. AppleInsider said it was “a great robot mower for a relatively flat yard with few obstacles.” GearDiary said setup “doesn’t make setup feel like an initiation ritual.”
Skip it if:
- Your yard has sand, ledges or hills. New Atlas’s front casters hung off a ledge of under 2 inches. AppleInsider’s wheels dug into loamy soil on a slope. See best robot mower for hills.
- You have a complex yard with stone walls. New Atlas said it repeatedly rammed 6 inch stone walls. See best robot mower for complex yards.
- You want all-wheel drive. It is two powered rear wheels with swivel casters. The larger MOVA LiDAX Ultra AWD is on our site.
Navigation and setup
It combines 360-degree 3D LiDAR with a front AI camera, called UltraView 2.0. Our navigation explainer compares the approaches. AppleInsider called it “as close to plug and play as you can get”: screw down the dock, power up, drive the mower around the perimeter like an RC car, and split zones. GearDiary agreed and said automatic mapping worked in simple areas, with manual mapping offering strong control.
New Atlas had the opposite experience in week one. It mapped the whole yard as one area, and the mower got stuck within a minute, needing about a dozen rescues in one day. Its advice: plan maps carefully and mark no-go zones. See our setup guide.
Mowing performance, slopes and terrain
AppleInsider’s flat areas went well, but a large dip and a side hill were harder because the wheels spun and dug in. Splitting the hill into its own zone with lengthwise mowing helped, and the reviewer didn’t have to rescue it again. New Atlas said it eventually performed “a pretty good job, honestly” on a neighbor’s easy lawn, but with no-go zones and a babysitting stretch. Check yours with our slope checker.
Coverage, cutting and edges
One deck with three blades per New Atlas, with app-set height of 1.2 to 3.9 inches. AppleInsider says the deck moves side to side to cut within about 2 inches of edges, and offers crisscross and checkerboard directions. GearDiary said edges are tight but some trimming remains around raised borders, and tall weeds may be avoided instead of cut. Battery life is about 60 minutes per GearDiary.
App, connectivity and anti-theft
GearDiary said the MOVAhome app gives enough control without turning every setting into a project, with up to two maps and 150 zones. New Atlas noted a patrol mode and said the PIN dial is slow to use. AppleInsider lists an audible alarm and alerts if the mower is lifted or leaves the area, a hidden AirTag slot, and optional 4G with a year included. See theft protection.
Ownership notes
- Noise. GearDiary found it extremely quiet. MOVA’s US product page image titles cite IPX6 and 57 dB, so confirm on the spec sheet.
- Kit. GearDiary lists nine spare blades and screws in the box.
- Obstacles. AppleInsider says the system sometimes dodges tall weeds, and you can turn that off.
- Price. MOVA’s US store lists $999. AppleInsider noted $999 on Amazon on sale, from $1,299, and New Atlas cites $1,049. Check today’s price.

Bottom line
An inexpensive, wire-free LiDAR mower that reviewers found easy to map and quiet, with a very wide range of experiences on reliability. It looks like a fit for a flat, open quarter acre and a poor one for sandy, ledged or wall-lined yards. Check today’s price.
