The Husqvarna Automower 435X AWD is a wire-guided, all-wheel-drive robot mower for sloped lawns up to about 0.9 acre. The professional tests we cite are from 2020 and 2021, when it cost far more, and it is now a cheaper alternative to Husqvarna’s wire-free iQ line. Husqvarna’s US page lists it at $2,999.99 as of 2026-10-12. Check today’s price.
Who the Husqvarna Automower 435X AWD is for (and who should skip it)
Tom’s Guide called it “made for steeply sloped lawns,” and said most homeowners could get away with much less expensive models. PCWorld recommended it for “very large yards with up to 35-percent inclines” and suggested smaller lots consider the 315X.
It fits a hilly lawn of about an acre where you want a mower from a dealer-supported brand and are willing to bury a wire.
Skip it if:
- You want no wire. Pick a LiDAR or RTK mower instead. See robot mower navigation explained and the wire-free Husqvarna Automower 435 iQ AWD.
- Your lawn is small and flat. See best robot mower for small yards.
- You have more than an acre. Wired’s three-acre test property was too big for it.
Navigation and setup
Tom’s Guide and PCWorld both describe a perimeter wire and a guide wire for the dock. PCWorld says GPS then maps the route inside it. PCWorld says it should be installed by a professional and, at the time, installation was included in the price. Tom’s Guide’s installer typically charged about $850 to $1,000, and for the 435X the company required a professional installer. PCMag also described dealer installation and listed a $99.95 DIY kit as an option. Policies may have changed since, so confirm with a dealer. See our setup guide.
Mowing performance, slopes and terrain
Husqvarna’s US spec table lists 70% maximum slope inside the installation and 50% at the boundary. Tom’s Guide tested on a front yard that slopes about 25 degrees, and its reviewer said it worked very well for the first week, then a motor failed, and Husqvarna replaced the whole mower, which then ran flawlessly for two months. PCMag’s reviewer said it had no trouble in a large crater left by a tree removal, and PCWorld’s reviewer saw it move in and out of a depression, though it did not cut that area to their satisfaction. Check your slope with our slope checker and see best robot mower for hills.
Coverage, cutting and edges
PCMag lists a three-blade rotating disc with an 8.7 inch cutting width and a cutting height of 1.2 to 2.8 inches. Tom’s Guide lists 100 minutes of mow time. Wired’s reviewer ran it three days a week and said the results of mowing daily were not noticeably different. As with most random-pattern wire mowers, expect to trim edges: Wired’s reviewer said they occasionally use a weed whacker.
App, connectivity and anti-theft
Tom’s Guide says there is no Wi-Fi but there is Bluetooth and 4G LTE, with Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT support. Husqvarna’s page lists GPS theft tracking and an alert if the mower leaves its area. PCMag also mentions a PIN code. See theft protection.
Ownership notes
- Noise. Husqvarna lists 60 dB(A). Wired called it silent most of the time.
- Weather. Husqvarna lists IPX4. Wired’s reviewer said it mowed in rain or shine. See do robot mowers work in rain.
- Blades. Tom’s Guide says Husqvarna recommends replacing blades every 3-4 months depending on use. See how long robot mowers last.
- Price history. Reviewers saw $4,799 (Tom’s Guide), $5,199.99 list (PCMag) and $5,200 (Wired). Husqvarna US now lists $2,999.99.

Bottom line
A proven, quiet, wire-guided AWD mower for a hilly acre, now at a much lower price than in the reviews we cite. All four professional tests are from 2020-21, so the evidence is older than most mowers on our site. If you can accept a buried wire, it is worth a price check against the wire-free iQ models.
