The single most useful number on a robot mower’s spec sheet is its rated area, and it is also the easiest to misread. It is a maker’s figure for how much lawn the mower can cover, usually phrased as “up to” some number of acres, and it is not a promise about your yard. This guide explains how to measure your lawn, how to read the rating, and which mowers in our model data sit in each size bracket. Prices are from our data as of October 7, 2026 and move often, so check today’s price before you buy. Area and slope figures are the makers’ ratings, not our measurements.
How do I measure my lawn?
Measure the grass the mower will actually cut, and leave out the house, the beds, the driveway and the patio. A free satellite map tool is enough: trace each separate patch of lawn and add them up. An acre is 43,560 square feet, so half an acre is 21,780 and a quarter acre is 10,890. If your lawn is in several patches, such as front and back yards, note them separately, because a mower has to be able to get between them, and the way it does that depends on the model.
Then round up and add headroom. The rating is a maximum under good conditions, and a lawn with narrow gaps, many obstacles or steep sections is harder than an open rectangle of the same size. A mower rated for exactly your lawn size has no margin. One rated for noticeably more has room to spare, and in our data the price difference between neighboring tiers in a series is often smaller than the cost of a mower that cannot keep up.
What does the rated area actually mean?
It is a ceiling set by the maker, and the way the makers word it is a hint. 9to5Toys describes Segway’s Navimow i206 AWD, for example, as covering “up to 0.15 acres” per charge, and Husqvarna’s Automower 410iQ as covering “up to 0.5 acres” per charge. In both cases the words are “up to.” Our data records the same kind of figure: 6,534 square feet for the i206 AWD and 21,780 for the 410 iQ.
Do not confuse recommended total lawn area with coverage per charge. The dated deal reports use per-charge wording, but Segway’s current X3 guide describes recommended lawn area. Check the maker’s definition and schedule assumptions for the exact model. Slopes, wet grass and tight passages can increase the time needed. That is why it helps to compare the rated area with your lawn and look at slope and navigation next, not to buy on the rating alone.
Which robot mowers suit lawns up to about a quarter acre?
For small lawns, the cheapest tiers cover about 0.12 to 0.15 acre. The Navimow i105N is rated for 5,445 square feet and listed at $669 in our data, with a 30 percent slope rating and RTK plus vision navigation. The Navimow i206 AWD is rated for 6,534 square feet at $849 with a 45 percent slope rating and all-wheel drive, which makes it a candidate in this bracket for a small yard with bumps or a slope. The eufy E15 is rated for 8,712 square feet at $999 with vision navigation and a 32 percent slope rating.
At the top of the quarter-acre bracket, several tiers are rated for 10,890 square feet. The Navimow i110N is $789 at 30 percent slope. The WORX Landroid Vision Cloud quarter acre model is $1,019.99 at 30 percent. The Navimow i210 AWD is $1,049 at 45 percent, and the Dreame A3 AWD 1000 is $1,099 with an 80 percent slope rating and LiDAR plus vision. One caution: the i206 AWD price in our data matches the sale price 9to5Toys reported on October 8, 2026, against a $999 regular price, so the street price may differ from what you see on the day. Which robot mowers suit lawns up to about half an acre?
This is the busiest bracket. The HOOKII Neomow X2 Air and the AIRSEEKERS TRON SE are both rated for 16,146 square feet, at $849 with LiDAR and a 45 percent slope for the Neomow, and $1,099 with RTK plus vision and a 60 percent slope for the TRON SE. The US Navimow X315 is currently rated for 0.5 acre (21,780 square feet), not the 17,424 recorded in our older dataset. Its dataset price is $1,799 and slope rating 50 percent. The ANTHBOT Genie 1000 is rated for 21,528 square feet at $1,199, which is a little under half an acre, so measure carefully if your lawn is close to 0.5 acre.
At 21,780 square feet, exactly half an acre, there are three: the ECOVACS GOAT A2000 LiDAR Pro at $1,399 and 50 percent slope, the Dreame A3 AWD 2000 at $1,539 and an 80 percent slope rating, and the Husqvarna Automower 410 iQ at $1,999 with RTK navigation and a 45 percent slope rating. The price spread for the same rated area is large, which tells you that price here buys other things: slope capability, navigation hardware, build, dealer support and brand. It does not mean the $1,999 mower covers more than the $1,399 one.
Which robot mowers suit lawns up to about one acre?
The range from about 27,000 to 43,560 square feet is where tier names matter. The Dreame A3 AWD Pro 2500 is rated for 27,007 square feet at $1,699 and an 80 percent slope. The HOOKII Neomow X2 SE is rated for 32,292 at $1,299, and the ECOVACS GOAT A3000 LiDAR Pro and Navimow X330 were both recorded at 32,670, at $1,849 and $2,299, each with a 50 percent slope rating. Segway’s current US X3 support guide instead recommends the US X330 for up to 1 acre (43,560 square feet). The ANTHBOT Genie 3000 is rated for 38,750 at $1,599.
At a full acre of 43,560 square feet, you will find the WORX Landroid Vision Cloud 1 acre at $1,840 (30 percent slope), the Navimow X430 at $2,499 (84 percent), and the Husqvarna Automower 420 iQ at $2,599 (45 percent, RTK). The HOOKII Neomow X2 is rated a little under at 43,056 square feet and $1,699. If your lawn is close to an acre, the rating leaves almost no margin, so a bigger tier is the safer choice.
Which robot mowers suit lawns over an acre?
Above an acre, the options in our data run from the Lymow One Plus 5A (47,916 square feet, $2,499, 100 percent slope rating) and the HOOKII Neomow X2 Pro (64,583 square feet, $2,499) through the Navimow X450 (65,340, $2,999, 84 percent) and the Lymow One Plus 10A (75,359, $2,799) to the Husqvarna Automower 440 iQ (87,120, $3,399) and the Navimow X390 (108,900 square feet, $4,499, 50 percent). At this scale, the price of a second smaller mower is worth comparing, as is dealer service if you want it. Winter storage also matters more with an expensive mower, so see our winter storage guide.
Does navigation matter for lawn size?
It can. Ecovacs, which sells both kinds, says in its own comparison that RTK navigation uses satellite signals and a base station and suits large, open lawns with structured, straight-line coverage, while LiDAR maps the surroundings with laser scanning and handles cluttered, irregular or shaded yards better. It also says RTK can lose accuracy when signals weaken, and can struggle under dense trees and buildings. That is a maker with a stake in the answer, so treat it as one view, but the trade-off it describes is the one the other makers’ designs reflect: many mowers in our data combine RTK with vision to cover both. Our how to choose a robot lawn mower and best robot lawn mowers of 2026 go deeper.
What else should I check besides area?
Slope: compare your steepest section with the maker’s slope rating, and see robot mower slope limits. Subscriptions: some mowers charge for cellular service after a period, so confirm what your model includes. Sale timing: our Black Friday page has dated sale prices and explains how to judge them.
Common questions
What size robot mower do I need for half an acre? One rated for at least 21,780 square feet, preferably more for margin. Several tiers in our data are rated for exactly that, and a few are rated above it.
Is the rated area a guarantee? No. It is a maker’s “up to” figure.
Does a bigger lawn always need a pricier mower? Within one series, yes. The Navimow X3 line runs from $1,799 for the X315 to $4,499 for the X390. Across brands, the same area can cost very different amounts.
Bottom line
Measure your mowable grass, add generous headroom, choose the tier that covers it, then check slope and navigation. Choose the tier and not just the brand, since one series can cover 0.15 acre or more than an acre depending on the model name. Check today’s price before you buy.
