The verdict

A conventional RTK-plus-camera mower from a familiar tool brand, with quiet running and a good warranty. It needs a reference antenna, it's 2WD and it hasn't been independently tested, while, for lawns up to a quarter acre, the Navimow i-series does the same job with proven results. Buy it only if easy Walmart returns matter most.

The Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z is a three-quarter-acre, wire-free robot mower from a brand most people know from big-box tool aisles. It pairs RTK positioning (with an included reference antenna) and AI cameras, runs quietly at 54 dB, adjusts cutting height electronically, and carries a 3-year warranty, all for a mid-range price. On paper it’s competent. But it’s 2WD, it needs an antenna, and we found no independent reviews, so it’s hard to choose over proven alternatives.

Who the Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z is for (and who should skip it)

The C30Z fits open, flat-to-gently-sloped lawns between a quarter and three-quarters of an acre (up to 32,670 sq ft), with a good view of the sky for the antenna. It also suits buyers who value a familiar brand, a long warranty and in-store returns more than cutting-edge navigation.

Skip it if:

  • Your yard is shaded. RTK needs open sky, and the cameras are a backup, not a replacement.
  • You have slopes over about 35%. The 45% (24°) rating is a dry-grass ceiling for a 2WD mower.
  • You want antenna-free setup. Network-RTK and LiDAR rivals skip the extra hardware.
  • You want a proven mower. No professional reviews yet, and the sibling C20’s buyer ratings are weak.

Greenworks calls the system RTKVision 2.0: RTK satellite positioning corrected by a reference antenna you install, plus smart cameras and night-vision sensors for obstacle detection. Greenworks claims 1-inch navigation accuracy and detection of more than 200 obstacle types.

Setup takes more planning than antenna-free mowers. In the box you get the antenna kit, the charging station, two separate power supplies (29V for the dock, 12V for the antenna) and two 32-ft low-voltage cables. Greenworks’ guidance for the antenna is at least 120° of open sky with nothing directly overhead, and an extension kit (sold separately) is available to mount it on a roof or wall. The dock needs level ground (less than about 2 in of drop front to back), a clear 6.5-ft radius, open sky about 3 ft in front, and ideally Wi-Fi coverage for firmware updates.

Mapping is manual. You drive the mower around each mowing area in the app, staying within about 20 ft of it, then add no-go zones and paths linking separate areas to the dock. Greenworks recommends keeping the mower about 4 in inside the real lawn edge while mapping. Our setup guide covers antenna and dock placement, and the navigation explainer explains why RTK cares about sky view.

Mowing performance, slopes and terrain

With two-wheel drive, oversized wheels and a 45% grade rating (about 24°), the C30Z is built for flat to moderately sloped lawns. That’s typical for a mid-priced 2WD mower, but it’s well short of the 80% ratings on AWD models, including Greenworks’ own G Series. Ratings assume dry, short grass, so give yourself a margin on wet mornings. Check your grade with our slope checker and see our slope limits explainer.

Greenworks says night mowing is supported with LED headlights, but its FAQ admits the vision system “may be less sensitive in low light,” which can reduce small-object detection and make docking slower. If pets or kids’ toys end up on the lawn, schedule mowing for daylight. Our safety guide has more.

Coverage, cutting and edges

The 8” cutting width is on the narrow side for three-quarters of an acre, and Greenworks lists a 0.9 mph mowing speed and a 50-minute recharge. A full-size lawn will take several cycles, which is normal at this size if you run a daily schedule.

The standout spec is electronic height adjustment from 0.75” to 3.5”, set in the app. Few robots go as low as 0.75”, which suits Bermuda and other warm-season grasses kept short, while 3.5” covers most cool-season lawns. Greenworks says edge mowing reaches within 4”, so expect to trim along fences and beds.

App, connectivity and anti-theft

The app handles mapping, zones, no-go areas, schedules and firmware updates, including optional overnight “silent” updates. Connectivity is Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G. Greenworks’ FAQ says 4G is activated during setup and refers to renewing an expired data plan, so budget for a subscription at some point, though pricing isn’t published on the product page.

Anti-theft starts with account binding: once the mower is linked to your app account, nobody else can use it. There’s also a PIN device lock. With 4G active and anti-theft enabled, the mower sounds an alarm if it’s moved out of its area and you can track its location. See our theft protection guide.

Ownership notes

  • Warranty: 3 years on the tool, longer than the 2 years common in this class.
  • Retail: sold by Greenworks and Walmart, so returns and exchanges are easier than with direct-only brands.
  • Battery: user-replaceable with genuine Greenworks batteries, which matters for long-term ownership. See how long robot mowers last.
  • Weather: IPX6-rated, so rain and hosing aren’t a problem. See do robot mowers work in rain.
  • Evidence: no professional reviews of the C30Z yet, and the smaller C20 averages about 3.2/5 from Walmart buyers.

If your lawn is a quarter acre or less, the Segway Navimow i105N / i110N does the same RTK-plus-camera job for less than half the price, with a track record from Reviewed and Tom’s Guide. For larger lawns, the WORX Landroid Vision Cloud covers up to an acre without an antenna and is sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s, Best Buy and Walmart, though it’s rated for gentler slopes. The ECOVACS GOAT A2000 / A3000 LiDAR Pro covers up to three-quarters of an acre with no satellites at all. Our best mowers for large lawns and Ecovacs vs Navimow comparison cover the field.

Bottom line

The Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z is a conventional RTK-plus-camera mower with quiet running, a useful low cutting height and a strong warranty. Against that: it needs an antenna and two power runs, it’s 2WD, and nobody has independently tested it. Buy it if easy Walmart returns and a 3-year warranty matter most and your three-quarter-acre lawn is open and gentle. Otherwise, proven rivals are the safer bet.

AiMowbot C30Z FAQ

Does the Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z need an RTK antenna?
Yes. The box includes a reference antenna kit with its own 12V power supply, separate from the charging dock's 29V supply. Greenworks says the antenna needs at least 120° of unobstructed sky, and sells an extension kit for roof or wall mounting if you can't find a clear spot on the ground. Plan for two outlets or two cable runs.
Does the Greenworks C30Z have 4G, and does it cost extra?
Greenworks lists 4G, and its FAQ says you activate it during initial setup. The same FAQ mentions renewing an expired 4G data plan, so expect a subscription at some point, though Greenworks doesn't publish the term or price on the product page. 4G powers the anti-theft alarm and location tracking.
Can the Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z mow hills?
Gentle ones. Greenworks rates the C30Z for a 45% grade, about 24°, with two-wheel drive and oversized wheels. That rating assumes dry, short grass. If your lawn has steeper sections, Greenworks' own G Series uses AWD and is rated to 80%, and AWD rivals from Dreame and Segway are proven on slopes.
Where can I buy the Greenworks AiMowbot C30Z?
Greenworks sells it directly at a mid-range price, and the AiMowbot line is also sold at Walmart, which makes returns easy if it doesn't suit your yard. Prices change, so compare Greenworks, Walmart and Amazon before buying, and check that you're getting the C30Z (three-quarter acre) rather than a smaller C-series model.
Has the Greenworks C30Z been independently reviewed?
We couldn't find a professional review of the C30Z as of October 2026. The smaller sibling C20 averages about 3.2 out of 5 from Walmart buyers, which isn't encouraging. Our assessment is based on Greenworks' specs, manual and FAQ, so treat the C30Z as an unproven model until independent testing appears.
